About Us

About us Actually the title should say about Me because that is what Blackberry Mountain Gift Shoppe is about. It has always been my dream. I spent a lot of years sign painting, designing logos, and a whole lot of other jobs that revolved around art. Of course, I had the normal jobs too, such as waitressing, etc. but in my soul I've always had that need to create. I thank God everyday for giving me the gift to create! I've always believed that the downtown section of any city has it's own heartbeat and soul. My husband rents a space in the upper section of the building that is the home of Blackberry Mountain Gift Shoppe. I would walk by these windows and think to myself, Gee, I think a gift shop would work well here. So when a space came available, I jumped on it. There use to be a small restaurant here and we had do some major cleaning and re-construction of the place. We opened our doors in 2004. I really enjoy researching products, going to market and then figuring out how to display stuff in my store. It was fun once the dust was cleaned up after expanding the store and then I could pick new colors and think of new ways to display things in the store. It is a constant work in progress. And so is this web site. A huge project, very time consuming to set up and I'm constantly struggling trying to figure out how to convey my store on the web site. People ask how I came up with the name; Blackberry Mountain Gift Shoppe. It actually came to me one morning while I was brushing my teeth. I was thinking about names, what things made me the happiest and my mind would wander back to my childhood. That time of innocents, barefoot, freedom, being in the mountains, picking blackberries. I love the country, mountains, old farmhouses, comfy chairs, sharing a wonderful meal with family and friends. My goal with Blackberry Mountain is the create a store that is comfortable, homey, different, and a place where people like to shop because they are visiting a friend. It is always music to my ears when I hear people say, I love your store! Your products are so different and reasonably priced." I don't want to be like the big chain stores, I want to have enough to sell but I don't order 500 of something because I think you lose that sense of uniqueness. My husband describes my store as a chick shop. There are products in my store that he doesn't understand why I bought it but I guarantee other women understand. So that is my story. One of a kind pieces, such as the florals and permanent botanicals, stitched and painted sayings are things that I have created and will continue. If you have any special request please feel free to contact me and we can work together and see what we can come up with
